Botox results build in gradually, and what you do in the first two days can affect how evenly it settles. None of this is complicated, but a few small habits make a real difference.
Do this
- Stay upright for about 4 hours. Avoid lying down flat so the product stays where it was injected.
- Move the treated muscles. Frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting on purpose a few times in the first hour can actually help Botox bind to the right muscles faster.
- Ice if you’re swollen or tender. A cold pack for a few minutes at a time is fine in the first few hours.
Skip this for 24 hours
- Strenuous exercise. Raising your heart rate and blood pressure can encourage the product to spread beyond the injection site.
- Alcohol. It thins the blood slightly and raises the odds of bruising.
- Touching or massaging the area. Pressing on the treated muscles can push Botox into nearby ones you didn’t intend to treat.
- Facials, saunas, or hot yoga. Heat and pressure on the face aren’t worth the risk this early.
What’s normal vs. what’s not
Mild redness, small bumps at the injection sites, or a light headache are common and usually gone within a few hours to a day. Bruising can happen and may take a week or so to fade completely — arnica gel or cream can help speed that along.
You won’t see the full effect right away. Botox typically starts working within 3 to 5 days and reaches its full result around the two-week mark. If it’s been two weeks and something looks uneven, let us know — a small touch-up is a normal part of getting your results dialed in.
