Botox Treatment in Pennsauken, NJ
Botox is an FDA-approved injectable that relaxes the small facial muscles behind frown lines, forehead creases, and crow's feet, so your skin looks smoother without looking frozen. At AZ Dental Spa Med Spa, it's administered by a provider with dedicated aesthetic medicine training, not squeezed in between other appointments.

It relaxes muscles, it doesn't fill them
Botox is the brand name for onabotulinumtoxinA, an FDA-approved injectable that temporarily blocks nerve signals to small facial muscles. Less muscle movement means the wrinkles those muscles create, like a furrowed brow or crow's feet, soften or disappear for a few months at a time.
It's different from dermal fillers, which add volume under the skin. Botox doesn't fill anything. It relaxes the muscle causing a wrinkle in the first place, which is why it works best on dynamic wrinkles, the ones that show up when you make an expression, rather than wrinkles caused by lost volume or sun damage.
Botox also has FDA-approved medical uses beyond cosmetics, including chronic migraine and, in some cases, TMJ-related jaw tension. This page focuses on cosmetic treatment, but ask us if a medical use might apply to you.
Where Botox is used on the face
Botox is FDA-approved for a specific set of facial areas, and those tend to be where it works best. Here's what we treat most often.
Good candidates for Botox usually have a few things in common
There's no single rule, but people who get the best results from Botox tend to fit a similar profile.
What to expect at your appointment
Here's what actually happens once you're in the chair.
Consultation and assessment — we review your facial movement, treatment goals, and medical history to map the right injection sites.
Marking the injection points — the provider marks the specific muscles to be treated.
The injections — a series of small injections with a very fine needle, usually done in 10 to 15 minutes.
Immediate aftercare — you go straight back to your day. No downtime, no bandages.
Watching for results — muscle relaxation starts within a few days and settles in fully over one to two weeks.
Follow-up, if needed — if an area under-responds, we can schedule a touch-up around the two-week mark.
Most Botox appointments take under 20 minutes of chair time, with results developing over the following one to two weeks.
How long does Botox last?
Most people get three to four months out of a treatment before muscle activity gradually returns and the wrinkles start reappearing. Individual results vary. Metabolism, muscle strength, the area treated, and how consistently you keep up with treatments all play a role. Areas with stronger muscles, like the forehead of someone who's very expressive, sometimes wear off a bit faster than a quieter area like crow's feet. Patients who stay on a regular schedule for a year or two sometimes find each round lasts a little longer than the last, since the treated muscle gets used to relaxing.
How does Botox compare to Dysport?
Botox and Dysport are both FDA-approved botulinum toxin injectables, and they do similar work. The differences come down to onset, spread, and dosing units, not effectiveness.
Botox
- The most studied and widely recognized neuromodulator available
- Precise, predictable dosing for smaller, detailed areas
- Typically kicks in within three to seven days
- FDA-approved for cosmetic and several medical uses
Dysport
- Tends to spread slightly more, which can suit larger areas like the forehead
- Sometimes starts working a day or two faster
- Uses a different unit-dosing scale, not interchangeable one-to-one with Botox
What about Xeomin? Xeomin is a third FDA-approved option, sometimes called a "naked" toxin since it doesn't contain the accessory proteins Botox and Dysport do. In theory that may lower the odds of developing resistance over years of repeat treatment, though for most patients the practical difference between Xeomin and Botox is small. We can talk through which option fits you at your consultation.
What's a Botox lip flip?
A lip flip uses a small amount of Botox at the corners of the upper lip to relax the muscle that pulls it inward, so the lip rolls slightly outward and looks fuller without adding volume. It's a different approach than dermal filler, which physically adds volume to the lip. Some patients combine the two, or start with a lip flip to see how they like a fuller upper lip before considering filler.
What Botox costs
Botox is typically priced per unit rather than as one flat fee, since the number of units needed depends on which area you're treating and how strong the muscle is. Frown lines between the brows and crow's feet usually need fewer units than a full forehead. A more expressive face, or someone opting for a stronger, longer-lasting result, may need a few more units as well. We'll map out your treatment areas at your consultation and give you an exact quote before anything is injected, so there's no guessing.
Cosmetic Botox typically isn't covered by dental or medical insurance. The one common exception is when Botox is prescribed for a diagnosed medical condition, such as chronic migraines or TMJ-related jaw tension, which some medical plans do cover. For cosmetic treatment, we keep pricing straightforward and offer payment plans instead.
Ask about financing options at your consultation.
Is Botox safe, and what are the side effects?
Botox has a long safety record when it's injected by a trained provider in the right doses. Most side effects are minor and temporary.
Common & temporary
Mild bruising, redness, or swelling at the injection sites are common and usually fade within a few days.
Less common
A mild headache or a heavy feeling in the treated area can happen in the first day or two and typically resolves on its own.
Rare, and preventable
A temporary droop in a nearby muscle, like an eyelid or brow, can happen if Botox spreads or is injected imprecisely. It's uncommon with an experienced injector and always temporary.
Botox isn't recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if you have certain neuromuscular conditions. We'll review your health history at your consultation to confirm you're a good fit.
What to do (and skip) after treatment
There's no real downtime after Botox, but a few simple precautions help it settle in the way it should.
Do
- Keep your face upright for the first four hours
- Move the treated muscles a little; light expressions are fine
- Give it one to two weeks to see full results
- Schedule a touch-up around two weeks if an area needs more
Don't
- Rub or massage the treated area for 24 hours
- Lie down flat or take a hot yoga class the same day
- Book Botox and a facial or peel on the same day
- Expect final results immediately; give it time to settle in

Questions about Botox treatment
What is Botox?
Botox is the brand name for onabotulinumtoxinA, an FDA-approved injectable that temporarily relaxes the small facial muscles behind wrinkles like frown lines, forehead creases, and crow's feet. It also has FDA-approved medical uses beyond cosmetics, including chronic migraine and, in some cases, TMJ-related jaw tension.
How much does Botox cost?
Botox is priced per unit rather than as a flat fee, so cost depends on which area you're treating and how many units that area needs. Frown lines and crow's feet usually need fewer units than a full forehead. We'll give you an exact quote at your consultation before any injections.
How long does Botox last?
Most people get three to four months out of a treatment before muscle activity gradually returns. It varies by person, area treated, and how consistently you keep up with appointments.
What areas of the face can Botox treat?
Botox is most often used on frown lines between the brows, forehead wrinkles, crow's feet, bunny lines on the nose, lip lines, and chin dimpling. It can also be used for a lip flip or to soften neck bands.
Does Botox hurt?
It's a quick series of small injections with a very fine needle, so most people describe it as a brief pinch rather than pain. The appointment itself usually takes 10 to 15 minutes.
What are the side effects of Botox?
The most common side effects are mild bruising, redness, or swelling at the injection sites, which usually fade within a few days. Less commonly, a mild headache can follow. Rarely, Botox can cause a temporary droop in a nearby muscle if it spreads or is injected imprecisely, which resolves on its own within a few weeks.
How soon will I see results, and how long do they take to fully develop?
Muscle relaxation typically starts within three to seven days and continues to settle in over the following one to two weeks. If an area hasn't fully responded by then, we can schedule a touch-up.
What's the difference between Dysport and Botox?
Both are FDA-approved botulinum toxin injectables and work in a similar way. Dysport tends to spread slightly more, which can suit larger areas, and sometimes starts working a day or two faster, but it uses a different unit-dosing scale than Botox. Neither is more effective than the other overall.
What's the difference between Xeomin and Botox?
Xeomin is a "naked" botulinum toxin without the accessory proteins found in Botox and Dysport, which in theory may lower the odds of developing resistance over years of repeat treatment. For most patients, the practical difference in results is small.
What's a Botox lip flip?
A lip flip uses a small amount of Botox at the corners of the upper lip to relax the muscle pulling it inward, so the lip rolls slightly outward and looks fuller without adding volume. It's different from lip filler, which adds volume directly, and some patients combine the two.
Is Botox covered by insurance?
Cosmetic Botox typically isn't covered by dental or medical insurance. The main exception is when it's prescribed for a diagnosed medical condition, such as chronic migraines or TMJ-related jaw tension, which some medical plans do cover. We offer payment plans through CareCredit and Lending Club for cosmetic treatment.
How do I know if I'm a good candidate for Botox?
You're likely a good candidate if you have dynamic wrinkles that show up with expression, you're in good general health, and you're not pregnant or breastfeeding. We'll review your medical history and goals at a consultation to confirm Botox is the right fit.
