Lip Filler in Pennsauken, NJ
Lip filler is a non-surgical treatment that uses hyaluronic acid gel to enhance the shape, size, and symmetry of your lips, with results you can see the same day. At AZ Dental Spa, that means a precise, conservative approach and the same spa-like comfort as every other visit.

A quick way to add volume and shape
Lip filler is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that uses hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already produces, to enhance the shape, size, and symmetry of your lips. It's injected directly into the lip tissue and gives a plumper, more defined, more youthful look with results visible right away.
Hyaluronic acid gel is soft, flexible, and holds water, which is what gives treated lips that natural fullness instead of a stiff or overdone look. Because it's a gel rather than a permanent implant, your provider can build volume gradually and adjust the shape as they go.
Not a one-time forever change. Your body slowly breaks the gel down over months, which is actually a safety feature: if you ever want a different look, or none at all, it fades rather than staying put permanently.
What lip filler actually changes
The goal isn't to make your lips look different from you, it's to make them look like a fuller, more defined version of what's already there.
Who's a good fit for lip filler?
Most healthy adults who want fuller, more defined, or more symmetrical lips are good candidates, whether you've never had filler before or you're due for a touch-up. It's generally not recommended if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active cold sore or infection near the mouth, or have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid. A short consultation is the fastest way to know for sure, and it's where we'll also talk through the shape and volume you're after.
Two different treatments, two different jobs
They're often confused, but they work in completely different ways. Which one's right for you comes down to whether you want more volume or a subtler change in how much lip shows.
Lip Flip
- Small amount of Botox relaxes the muscle that curls the upper lip inward
- Doesn't add volume, just exposes more of the lip you already have
- Subtler change that typically lasts 6–10 weeks
Lip Filler
- Hyaluronic acid gel adds real, physical volume
- Can reshape the lip border and improve symmetry
- More noticeable change that typically lasts six months to a year
Can you get both? Yes. Some patients pair a lip flip with filler for a fuller look with a bit more exposed lip when they smile. We'll help you figure out what actually matches the result you want.
What happens at your appointment
Here's what actually happens once you're in the chair.
Consultation — we talk through the shape, size, and look you want, and review your medical history.
Numbing — a topical numbing cream is applied to keep the injections comfortable.
Injection — hyaluronic acid gel, often from the Juvederm family of products, is placed at precise points along and within the lips.
Shaping — your provider massages and molds the product for even distribution and symmetry.
Ice and final check — ice is applied to reduce swelling, and we review the result together before you leave.
Most appointments run 15 to 30 minutes start to finish, and results are visible immediately, before any swelling settles.
How long does lip filler last?
Most hyaluronic acid lip fillers last somewhere between six months and a year. Exactly how long depends on which product we use, how much was injected, and your own metabolism. Lips that move a lot when you talk or eat tend to break filler down a little faster than other treated areas do. Once it fades, the effect just gradually returns to how your lips looked before, there's no dramatic drop-off, and you can always come back for a touch-up before it's fully gone.
The lip filler swelling timeline
Some swelling is normal and expected. It follows a fairly predictable pattern, and it's temporary, not part of your final result.
First 24–48 hours
Swelling typically peaks here. Lips can feel tight or look noticeably fuller than the intended result, and light bruising is possible.
Days 3–7
Swelling steadily goes down each day. Your lips start looking closer to the shape and size you'll end up keeping.
Around week 2
The final result settles in. Any last bit of puffiness or asymmetry from swelling should be resolved by now.
What to do (and skip) afterward
Lip filler aftercare is simple, and most people get back to their normal routine the same day. A few precautions in the first 24–48 hours go a long way toward a smooth, even result.
Do
- Apply ice in short intervals to ease swelling
- Drink plenty of water over the next few days
- Sleep with your head slightly elevated the first night
- Give it the full two weeks before judging the final result
Don't
- Apply lipstick or lip makeup for about 24 hours
- Press, rub, or massage the lips unless we've told you to
- Get intense workouts or sun and heat exposure in for 24 hours
- Book another filler appointment too soon after this one
What is lip filler migration?
Migration is when filler moves outside the natural border of the lip over time, sometimes showing up as extra fullness just above the upper lip. It's a real risk with any filler, and it's usually caused by overfilling, injecting too much product too fast, or repeated treatments stacked on top of each other without enough time to settle in between. It's not caused by the product itself failing, it's almost always a technique and volume issue. We manage that risk with conservative, precise injections, appropriate product choice, and not adding more filler to an area that's already full. If you ever notice filler shifting after treatment elsewhere, hyaluronidase can dissolve it and we can start fresh.
What a natural-looking result actually looks like
The best lip filler results don't look like "filler," they look like your lips, just fuller and more defined. Before and after photos of well-done lip filler usually show a subtle change: more volume, a cleaner border, better balance between the top and bottom lip, but still recognizably you. We build up gradually rather than chasing maximum volume in one visit, especially for first-time patients, so the change looks intentional rather than sudden. If you want a bigger transformation, that's fine too, it just tends to happen over a couple of appointments rather than one.
What lip filler costs
Cost depends on a few things: how many syringes you need, which product we use, and the amount of correction or volume you're after. Most patients start with one to two syringes for a natural enhancement. Lip filler is a cosmetic treatment, so it's typically not covered by dental or medical insurance, and we're upfront about that. We do offer payment plans through CareCredit and Lending Club, and we'll give you a firm price at your consultation before anything is injected.
Not typically covered by insurance — payment plans available through CareCredit & Lending Club.

Questions about lip filler
How much does lip filler cost?
It depends on how many syringes you need, which product we use, and the look you're going for. Most patients need one to two syringes for a natural enhancement, more for a dramatic change. We'll give you a firm price at your consultation before anything is injected.
How long does lip filler last?
Most hyaluronic acid lip fillers last six months to a year. Your metabolism, activity level, and which product we use all affect how fast your body breaks it down. Thinner, more mobile lips tend to metabolize filler a bit faster.
What's the difference between a lip flip and lip filler?
A lip flip uses a small amount of Botox to relax the muscle that curls your upper lip inward, so more of it shows when you smile or talk. It doesn't add volume. Lip filler uses hyaluronic acid gel to actually add volume and reshape the lips. Some patients do both together.
Does getting lip filler hurt?
Most patients describe it as pressure and a few quick pinches rather than sharp pain. We apply topical numbing cream before injecting, and most fillers also contain lidocaine, which numbs the area as it's injected.
What is lip filler migration, and how do you prevent it?
Migration is when filler moves outside the natural border of the lip over time, sometimes described as a "duck lip" look above the upper lip. It's usually caused by overfilling, poor injection technique, or repeated treatments without enough time between them. We reduce the risk by using conservative, precise volumes and appropriate products, and by not overfilling an area that's already full.
How long does swelling last after lip filler?
Swelling typically peaks around 24 to 48 hours after treatment, then steadily goes down over the following week. Most patients look close to their final result by day 7 to 10, with any last bit of puffiness gone by around two weeks.
Is lip filler safe, and can it be reversed?
Hyaluronic acid filler has a strong safety record when placed by a trained provider. It's also one of the few cosmetic treatments that's reversible: an enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve it if you're unhappy with the result or want to start over.
What brand of filler do you use?
We use well-known, FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers, including products from the Juvederm family, chosen based on your lips and the result you want.
How do I know if I'm a good candidate for lip filler?
Most healthy adults who want fuller, more defined, or more symmetrical lips are good candidates. It's not a fit for anyone who's pregnant or breastfeeding, has an active infection near the mouth, or has a known allergy to hyaluronic acid. A quick consultation will confirm whether it's right for you.
Can I wear lipstick or makeup after lip filler?
We recommend waiting about 24 hours before applying lipstick or lip makeup, mainly to avoid unnecessary pressure and bacteria on the freshly injected area. Regular face makeup elsewhere is fine right away.
Do you accept insurance for lip filler treatments?
No. Lip filler is a cosmetic treatment, so it isn't covered by dental or medical insurance. We do offer payment plans through CareCredit and Lending Club to help spread out the cost.
