Microdermabrasion in Pennsauken, NJ

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical treatment that exfoliates away the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing fresher, healthier skin underneath and promoting new collagen production. It's one of the simplest ways to get smoother texture and a brighter glow with no needles, no downtime, and no recovery to plan around.

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Fresh skin, without the downtime

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical treatment that exfoliates away the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing the fresher, healthier skin underneath. A handheld device gently sands or vacuums that outer layer off, and the light abrasion also promotes new collagen production as your skin responds and renews itself.

It's one of the gentlest professional exfoliation options available, which is why it's such a popular starting point for people who want brighter, smoother skin without needles, chemicals, or any real recovery time built into their week.

Not a deep treatment. Microdermabrasion only works on the outermost layer of skin, which is exactly what makes it comfortable and downtime-free. Deeper concerns like pronounced scarring or wrinkles usually respond better to microneedling or a stronger chemical peel.

Benefits

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

The core benefits are minimized fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin texture, reduced blemishes, and a real boost in radiance. Here's the fuller picture of what patients notice.

Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles
Improves overall skin texture
Reduces the look of blemishes
Boosts radiance and glow
Softens the look of mild acne scars
Refines the look of clogged pores
Evens out mild sun damage and dullness
Helps serums and creams absorb better afterward
Good Candidates

Who's a good candidate for microdermabrasion?

Most people with mild texture, tone, or dullness concerns are good candidates, including those looking to soften shallow acne scars, since the treatment is gentle enough for regular skin with almost no downtime. It's best suited to surface-level concerns rather than deep wrinkles or significant pitted scarring, which usually respond better to microneedling or a deeper peel. It's generally not recommended during active acne breakouts, open wounds, or certain skin conditions like rosacea flare-ups. We'll check your skin type, goals, and history at a quick consultation before your first session to make sure it's the right fit.

Microdermabrasion vs. Microneedling

What's the real difference?

Both treatments exfoliate and encourage skin renewal, but at very different depths. Microdermabrasion works on the surface. Microneedling works underneath it.

Microdermabrasion

  • Mechanically exfoliates only the outermost layer of skin
  • No needles, no bleeding, essentially no downtime
  • Best for mild texture, dullness, and surface blemishes
  • Comfortable enough to repeat every few weeks

Microneedling

  • Creates controlled micro-injuries deeper in the skin
  • Triggers a stronger collagen-building response
  • Better suited to deeper lines, scarring, and tone concerns
  • Needs numbing cream and a few days of visible redness

Which one is right for you? Microdermabrasion is the gentler starting point. Microneedling goes deeper for more stubborn concerns. Some patients actually alternate between the two depending on what their skin needs that season. We'll help you sort out which fits your goals at a consultation.

Microdermabrasion vs. Dermaplaning

Two ways to exfoliate

Both remove dead skin from the surface, but the tools and the results aren't quite the same.

Microdermabrasion

  • Uses a handheld device with suction to lift away dead skin cells
  • Also promotes collagen production as the skin renews
  • A good option for most skin types, including oilier skin

Dermaplaning

  • Uses a surgical-grade blade to remove dead skin and peach fuzz
  • Leaves skin especially smooth for makeup application
  • A good option if visible facial hair is part of the concern

Not sure which to book? If peach fuzz bothers you as much as texture does, dermaplaning covers both in one pass. If you're focused purely on renewal and glow, microdermabrasion is the simpler choice. Either way, we'll talk it through before you commit to one.

The Procedure

What happens at your appointment

Here's what actually happens once you're in the treatment room.

1

Cleansing and consultation — skin is cleansed and we review your goals before starting.

2

Exfoliation pass — a handheld crystal or diamond-tip device gently exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin cells.

3

Suction and extraction — built-in suction lifts away loosened skin cells and debris as the device passes over your skin.

4

Soothing serum — a calming, hydrating serum is applied to support the fresh skin underneath.

5

Sun protection — SPF is applied before you leave, since freshly exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive.

Most sessions run 30 to 45 minutes with no numbing needed and no downtime. A course of 6 to 8 sessions, spaced a couple of weeks apart, is common for full results.

Before & After

What results actually look like

One session gives you a noticeable glow. The fuller before-and-after transformation people picture usually builds from a series.

Right after your session

Skin looks brighter and feels noticeably smoother immediately, with mild pinkness that usually fades within a few hours.

Over the following days

No peeling or real downtime for most people. Texture keeps improving in the days after as new collagen forms.

After a full course

A series of 6 to 8 sessions, spaced a couple of weeks apart, is what tends to show up in real before-and-after photos.

Aftercare

What to do (and skip) afterward

Most people head straight back to normal activities the same day. Freshly exfoliated skin is more sun-sensitive for about a week, so a little extra care goes a long way.

Do

  • Apply SPF 30 or higher daily, especially the first week
  • Keep skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer
  • Let any mild pinkness fade on its own
  • Ease back into your normal skincare after a day or two

Don't

  • Use retinols or strong exfoliating acids for a few days
  • Spend extended time in direct sun without protection
  • Pick at or scrub the treated skin
  • Book back-to-back sessions closer than we recommend
Cost & Payment

What microdermabrasion costs

Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment, so it's typically not covered by insurance. We'll be upfront about that at your consultation. Cost depends on the treatment area and how many sessions you book — a course of 6 to 8 sessions usually costs less per visit than booking one at a time. We offer payment plans through CareCredit and Lending Club to help spread out the cost.

FAQ

Questions about microdermabrasion

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical treatment that exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells using a handheld device, revealing fresher, healthier skin underneath and promoting new collagen production.

What does microdermabrasion do for your skin?

It sands or vacuums away the outermost layer of dead skin cells, which immediately smooths texture and brightens tone, while the light abrasion also signals your skin to produce fresh collagen over time.

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

The main benefits are minimized fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin texture, reduced blemishes, and a noticeable boost in radiance. Many patients also see softer-looking acne scars and better absorption of their skincare products afterward.

How much does a microdermabrasion facial cost?

Cost depends on the treatment area and how many sessions you book. A single session costs less per visit than booking one at a time within a full course. Ask us for a specific quote at your consultation.

What should I expect from microdermabrasion before and after?

Right after treatment, skin looks brighter and feels smooth, with mild pinkness that usually fades within a few hours and no real downtime. The fuller before-and-after transformation most people picture builds over a series of 6 to 8 sessions.

Is microdermabrasion good for acne scars?

It can help soften the look of mild, shallow acne scars by smoothing surface texture over a series of sessions. Deeper or pitted scarring usually responds better to microneedling, which works further beneath the surface.

What's the difference between microdermabrasion and microneedling?

Microdermabrasion mechanically exfoliates only the outermost layer of skin with no needles and essentially no downtime. Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries deeper in the skin, triggering a stronger collagen response that's better suited to deeper lines and scarring.

What's the difference between microdermabrasion and dermaplaning?

Microdermabrasion uses a handheld device with suction to lift away dead skin cells. Dermaplaning uses a surgical-grade blade to remove dead skin and peach fuzz in one pass, leaving skin especially smooth for makeup application.

Does microdermabrasion hurt?

No, most patients describe it as a mild scratching or vacuum-like sensation, not pain. There's no numbing cream needed, and you can typically return to normal activities immediately afterward.

How many microdermabrasion sessions do you need?

One session gives an immediate glow, but a series of 6 to 8 sessions spaced a couple of weeks apart is what tends to produce lasting improvement in texture, tone, and fine lines.

Is microdermabrasion covered by insurance?

No, microdermabrasion is a cosmetic treatment and typically isn't covered by insurance. We offer payment plans through CareCredit and Lending Club to help spread out the cost.
